The special forest products of Okinawa Prefecture are mainly produced and shipped in the northern part of Okinawa Jima (Island). Kin Cho (Town) and Onna Son (Village) are most active in the production of ornamental plants including re vegetation trees, and there the administrative authorities, producers and distribution (marketing) supporters have joined to develop special forest products industry. Due to lots of imported fresh shiitake mushroom and charcoal, and deflationary depression for long time in recent years, the production of special forest products shows the trend of decrease generally, and their managements are in hard conditions. It is necessary for producers to make more efforts to improve technologies of their productions. The distribution systems of special forest products are not arranged enough throughout the Prefecture. The special forest products are very important kinds of crop as income resources harvested for a short term in rural community. Kinds of mushroom et cetera are food which is useful to natural and healthy aim, and it is necessary to call their more potential demand. The basis of Okinawa Prefecture economic establishment is the tourist industry. Therefore, it is needed to link between special forest products and tourist industry to create their big demands. It is necessary to arrange and expand their production bases and distribution facilities, and to promote the improvement in their productivities and qualities, and to strengthen their collecting and shipping systems from now on, and to form the growing districts of special forest products which originate in districts and are characteristric.
