In this essay I undertake the following tasks in order to examine whether teaching the regional dialect to international students is useful for improving their Japanese language ability: by introducing "variation" in the Japanese language, determine what the international students think about the use of the regional dialects, and how the Japanese learners need the regional dialects.\nAs a result of investigation based on these questions, the following three points were elucidated:\n(1) The international students hear a different varienty of not only original forms of words that are not seen in normal Japanese, but also "unnoticed dialects;" that is, same forms equivalent in Japanese in spite of differing meanings and a uses.\n(2) The international students often come In contact with regional dialects.\n(3) The regional dialect builds close human relations.\nIn consequence we suggest that the ability to understand the distinctions between the regional dialects from the "Japanese language" helps the Japanese learners improve their Japanese ability, and so teaching the regional dialect is necessary for the international students.
