The acid dissociation constants of 5-sulfosalicylic acid were determined with the aid of spectrophotometer and pH meter. The results were pK_2 = 2.32 and pK_3 =12.19, in which K_2 and K_3 are the acid dissociation constants for the second and third dissociation corresponding to the dissociation of proton from the carboxyl and hydroxyl group, respectively. The first dissociation constant for the acid dissociation of the sulfonic acid group was not determined because the dissociation occurs in the strong acidic reglon.
