The aim of this experiment is to elucidate the pathogenesis of Habu-bite by analyzing the cardiovascular changes and complex phenomina elicited by Habu-venom in dogs Adult mongrel dogs were anesthetized with pentobarbital, and the effects of intramuscular and intraperitoneal injections of Habu-venom, such as 10, 15, 20mg/kg intramuscularly and 5, 10, 15mg/kg intraperitoneally, were studied. Cardiovascular monitering of E. C. G, arterial pressure, and central venous pressure, were recorded on polygraphsystem. Arterial blood gas, electrolytes, lactic acid, serum hemoglobin, coagulation tests etc. were analysed periodically throughout the experiment. Progressive decrease of arterial blood pressure supposedly induced by myocardial depression by the venom, hypovolemic shock by drop of central venous pressure, lactic acidosis, hyperkalemia and D. I. C. were the systemic pathological reactions occured after the injection of Habu-venom in the dogs. In conclusion, several causes of deaths are suggested from those pathophysiological phenomina induced by the experimental envenomation which indicated the the pathogenesis of Habu-bite is not unitary.
