Image Restoration by a Constrained Genetic Algorithm

A genetic algorithm is presented for the deconvolution problem of image restoration. The restoration problem is modeled as an optimization problem, whose cost function is minimized based on mechanics of natural selection and natural genetics. Because the complicated a priori constraints can be easily incoporated by the appropriate modification of the costfunction, the algorithm is well suited to the solution of ill-posed problem. The simuation results show that it is possible to obtain a perfect restoration even in the presence of noise by constraining the cost function with some a priori information such as smoothness.
