The Okinawa Islands are frequently hit by typhoons. There are many more sea salt particles in summer typhoon winds than in the winds that blow during other seasons. Disasters caused by these salty winds occur much more often in the Okinawa prefecture than any other prefecture of Japan. Civil engineers plan and design artificial windbreaks made as countermeasures against the disasters caused by the salty sea winds. Such windbreaks are usually areas of plant life, such as trees, planted by the coast. The location and size of these areas of plant life depend completely on the judgement of the engineers. If the judgement of these engineers is inaccurate, the windbreaks would simply be a waste of time, effort, and money; therefore, an understanding of the salty sea winds and an analysis of the sea salt particles they contain must be done. This paper describes and explains a method of simulating the salty sea winds. Using the numerical simulation, the sea winds can be studied and the sea salt particles can be analyzed. Finally, this method can help engineers understand the way the salty sea winds flow over coastal areas that have windbreak forests and complex topography.
