This report consists of three parts; the outline of the education in Taiwan, the present situation of the industrial arts education and its teacher training program. The main problems discussed in this report are as follows:\n1. Taiwan has basically adopted the 6 - 3 - 3 system, though allowing some exceptions depending upon different needs for specialized education. The compulsory education is limited to the first six years of primary school. But most of those who have completed their compulsory education try to further their education. Capacity of secondary schools being quite limited. the competition is extremely keen. Yearly expansion of educational fund, though considerable. has been outmached by that of the number of pupils.\n2. Industrial Arts education on high school level (junior and senior) was initiated in 1953 in the so-called community schools. But on account of the financial limitation and, in some cases, the shortage of human resources, it is yet to be introduced in general high schools other than the community schools.\n3. The training program for industrial arts teachers has been undertaken by Taiwan Provincial Normal University since 1953. The University, having wellequipped school shops and competent teaching staff, has produced many welltrained teachers through its program which places a heavy emphasis on shop practices.
