Experiments have been made with flat vanes in two-dimensional diffusers with divergence angles of 30°, 40° and 60° and an area ratio of 4:1, to determine the optimum vane location and the effect of vanes on the pressure recovery. The performance of these diffusers was improved by means of short flat vanes placed in the vicinity of the diffuser inlet section. The basic criteria for effective vane configurations with source-point translation were developed which indicated that the optimum pressure recovery was attained for both 30°and 40° diffusers at △θ=3°, the angle for measuring source-point translation. However the source-point translation did not bring any appreciable improvement in the performance for the 30° diffuser.
