Using a questionnaire based on the Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale(ULS) and the Self-Disclosure Situations Survey (SDSS) , a degree of loneliness and self-disclosure was quantitatively assessed. The sample size consisted of 118 subjects(58 males, 60 females)mainly suffering from neurosis or psychosomatic disease, and 138 people (73 males, 65 females) without the disease which served as the control. Total scores of the ULS were 46.7 in the subject, and 38.3 in the control. There was a significant difference between the groups. The total scores of the SDSS were 67.3 in the former group, and 71.3 in the latter group, respectively. The values slso differed statistically. Throughout the age, a statistical significance was noted only for questions that targeted related groups. From the results of this survey, it was observed that the subjects had a higher degree of loneliness and more difficulty at disclosure than the controls, particularly among the related group.
