Cancer is the most common cause of death in Japan. Although cancer treatments by surgery, chemotherapy or radiation have been developed, the importance of cancer prevention is more and more increasing in recent years. Since the term "cancer chemoprevention" was coined in 1970's, many studies in this area have been performed extensively. Among the causal factors of cancer, diet is proved as a risk factor for about 30% of this disease. Therefore, chemoprevention by dietary factors is an important issue for cancer prevention. Here, our recent studies in chemoprevention of colon cancer and our future plans are presented.
