In the present situation of cane -growing in Okinawa, importance of incorporation of crop residues in the soil to preserve and increase soil fertility, resulting in cane yield increases, was discussed. Effects of decomposition of organic matters through the process of anaerobic fermentation with use of materials including anaerobes on crop growth are reported among the growers, remaining unexplained mechanism of the effects, in recent years. Decomposition of bagasse was observed in use of an anaerobes material CARUS NC-R, comparing with aerobic fermentation. Field experiments were conducted on the effect of bagasse incorporated in soil with use of the same material on the growth and yield of cucumber and paddy-rice. The results obtained did not show significant effects in each experiment, and it was considered to be needed to continue further experiments under the different soil conditions and application methods.
