Subjects were 6-and 10-yr-old children. They described themselves and the most prefered other (friend). Both for self-cognition and others-cognition, the number of statements containing descriptions of personal characteristics increased with age, too. It was found that self-cogntion was different from others-cognition in 10-yr-old children. Namely, they described themselves using descriptions of negative personal characteristics and with the low level of otheres referent description. In contrast, they described others using the words of positive personal characteristics and with the high level of others (for the described other) referent descriptions, especialy with self referent development Similarities and differences between self-cognition and other-cognition development was discussed.
