The rhodoliths consist of plural individuals of nonarticulated coralline algae and encrusting form of foraminifer Aceruulina inhaerens, both of which form more or less concentric internal structure. Radiocarbon dates of 11 rhodoliths range from modern to 2750 ± 70 yrs. B. P. These ages and existence of living coralline algae on the surface of rhodoliths indicate on-the-spot rhodolith-formation on the deep forereef to insular shelves at depths down to 135m., 紀要論文}, pages = {185--193}, title = {沖縄本島近海の陸棚上に見られるサンゴモ球の放射性炭素年代} }
