The human memory system can be divided into a series of stages which includes short-term memory (STM) and long-term memory (LTM). STM and LTM play an important role when information from the \"real world\" passes through the human information-processing system. When a new piece of information enters the system, LTM comes into play. The new information can be interpreted through use of a schema, that is to say, certain stored knowledge in LTM.\\nStructuring the schema in LTM seems to be the first step in interpreting a new piece of information from the real world. Therefore, this paper suggests that LTM structures an English schema with the result that a piece of information in English can be interpreted through use of the schema.\\nDictation exercise was recommended to build up the schema in LTM in order to develop listening comprehension abilities. Because of failures in the control of procedures, an experiment only partially supported this theory.
