The result showed that 15.8% of sprout shoots came out from the upper part of a stump, whereas 84.2% of all shoots belonged to lower ones. This suggested that most of sprout shoots occurred on lower part of a stump rather than on upper part. Different species may have different characteristics of sprout positions. In the present study, of 62 species, 16 species had only lower position shoots. Relatively, one species had only upper position shoots, 2 species were dead without any sprout shoot, and 43 species had not only upper position shoots but also lower position ones. Although most shoots occurred in lower part, 7 species, upper part sprouts had higher values remarkably for both mean D. B. H (diameter at breast height) and mean height than lower ones. Along with the increasing of D. B. H of stump, three D. B. H class regions for the sprout growth were recognized on the basis of analysis of mean D. B. H and mean height of sprout stands. This suggests an existence of appropriate D. B. H before cutting for sprout regeneration. In experimental area the appropriate D. B. H for sprout regeneration was 10.0∿25.0cm. The studies on sprout characteristics of species and D. B.
