In addition, leaf photosynthetic rates, specific leaf area, root dry weight were measured. Based on these results, the salt tolerant characteristics were compared among three species. Photosynthetic rates were more decreased at 400mM NaCl in order of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Kandelia candel, and Rhizophora stylosa. The K^+/Na^- ratio was lower in Kandelia candel as compared with other species. Furthermore, ion contents were measured on different leaf position for six Okinawan mangrove species from natural habitat. Na^+ content of leaf blade was increased from top to base in all species measured.
