Investigation sites for the soil samples are shown in Fig. 1. some of the physical properties that were identified are summarized as follows. 1) The clay content of Kunigami Maaji in Kumejima Island ranged from 30.0 to 53.0%, indicating that the soil texture ranges from light clay to heavy clay. But the texture of Shimajiri maaji ranges from sandy clay to silty clay. This property is different from those of Okinawa Island. 2) As to soil maisture holding capacity, the Kunigami Maaji has the lowest water holding capacity and Shimajiri Maaji has the highest one conversely. 3) Measurment of the dispersion ratio and pH test of the three main soils shows that the Kunigami Maaji soil is regarded as the most erodibility. 4) The Kunigami Maaji soil in Kumejima Island exhibited peculiar properties on dispersion ratio and pH value conpared with those soils of Okinawa Island.
