Nansei Shoto has been the chief producing district of Wagyu cattle in Japan so far. The objective of this study is to analyze the present status of beef cattle marketing in Nansei Shoto and find out the problems and point out the way of improvements. The demand for Wagyu cattle will increase as introducing the liberation of beef import. Therefore, the number of Wagyu catlle raised must be increased to meet the increased demand for Wagyu cattle. The number of veal calves transacted at livestock markets in Nansei Shoto exceeds the number of adult cattle. And the veal calves transacted are shipped to the outside of Nansei Shoto, mainly to mainland of Kagoshima prefecture and other Kyushu areas. Good blood veal calves are transacted at high prices at livestock markets in Nansei Shoto. Therefore, producers must keep good blood cows and bulls.
