When sugarcane bagasse was pretreated at 120℃ for 20min with 0.5% NaOH, 20% Ethylendiamine, 5% NaClO, 5% NalO_2,and 35% H_2O_2-CH_3COOH (1 : 1), the lignin contents greatly decreased and marcked increases in cellulose. The favorable NaOH and NaClO_2 concentrations for removal of lignin were nearly 0.5% (w/v) and 3.0% (w/v), respectively. Pretreatments with 0.5% NaOH, 20% Ethylendiamine, 5% NaClO, 5% NaClO_2 and 35% H_2O_2-CH_3COOH considerably enhanced in degradability of bagasse by Sporotrichum cellulase. The susceptibility of the pretreated bagasse for enzyme atack was dependent upon the lignin content.
