The virus was transmitted by sap-inoculation from diseased plant to the families Cactaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Amaranthaceae and Aizoaceae. It caused chlorotic ringspot and spot on the pads of cactus plants. Local lesions were produced on inoculated leaves of other host plants. Among them, Cerosia cristata was found to be a useful local lesion assay host. The virus was inactivated in ten minutes between 80℃ and 85℃ and more than 130 days at 20℃. Dilution end point was between 10^<-5> and 10^<-6>. The rod-shaped virus particles were found in leaf-dip preparations of cactus and Tetragonia expansa under electron microscopy and was 525nm long.
