Those having the higher pK values of amino group, such as L-ornithine, L-lysine, and β-alanine, gave greater association constants, indicating not only the association constant of retinylidene-compound formation but also the pK value of the amino group involved in the reaction would be utilized as an indicator for the purpose of screening amino-acid related, food-originated insect-vision inhibitors at a molecular level. For aniline and hydroxylamine, the association constants and molar extinction coefficients of the respective product formed were also determined.
