For further studies on water balance in the area, it is necessary to know water holding capacity of the soil, availability of groundwater, measured values of consumptive use of water of other crops, and so on. The results obtained from the present studies are as follows : 1. The dates of the beginning and end of the rainy season and their fluctuation from year to year in the central part have been obtained for four locations as shown in Table 1. 2. The frequency distribution of little values of 30-day rainfall for each consecutive 30 days in the rainy season has been obtained for four locations in the central part as shown in Fig. 4. 3. The return period of little values of monthly rainfall has been obtained for four locations in the central part as shown in Table 2. 4. A table usable to estimate net water supply by irrigation or by natural inundation necessary to make up for rainfall shortage of the rice field in the central part has been obtained for four locations as shown in Table 6,and another table for the rough estimation of net water supply to the sugar cane field has been obtained as shown in Table 7. 5. In order to find whether any correlation in rainfall in the midst of the rainy season exists between the central part and the watershed upstream, the correlation coefficient of the location average of two-month rainfall for August and September was calculated by using rainfall data for seven locations in the two areas.
