The enzyme was inactivated by addition of EDTA and reactivated by CaCl_2 and MgCl_2. A proteinase was purified from the venom by gel filtration on Sephadex G-75,G-100,and G-50,and DEAE cellulose column chromatography with 4.1% over all yield and a 3.4 fold increase in specific activity. The purified enzyme was found to be homogeneous by disc gel electrophoresis and contain (Ca)^<++>.
