After then the disease was widely spread throughout the Okinawa, Miyako and Yaeyama Islands in the several years. But no occurence in the Minami-Daito and Kita-Daito Islands. This virus isolated from severe distortion leaves in papaya collected in Okinawa was identified as papaya ringspot virus. Host range, Physical properties, aphid transmission and electron microscopic studies are described in this paper. The virus was transmitted by sap inoculation and also by Myzus persicae and Aphis gossypii in non-persistent manner. By the sap inoculation, 5 species in 2 families plant infected out of 34 species in 10 families tested. The infected plants were papaya, fancy gourd, cucumber, pickling melon and Melothria liukiuensis. The virus inactivated in ten minutes between 55C and 60C, and after 2-3 days at 20C. Dilution end point was between (10)^<-3> and (10)^<-4>.
