As pteridophytes, conifers and broad-leaved trees are generally known, they head the key for group I, II, and III, respectively. A key consists of a series of statements concerning contrasting characters in pairs. Each successive pair is subordinate to the preceding pair and each pair constitutes two branches of the key, for example A1-A2,B1-B2,C1-C2,……. The key is based upon the vegetative organs, such as buds, trunks, stems, branches, and the like.
