This study was done to estimate the transpiration of pineapple in Okinawa. An out-door experiment to measure the amount of the transpiration was done on the grounds of the University of the Ryukyus, Naha, Okinawa, using water balance method and weighing method. As a sample for the experiment, plants of Smooth Cayenne variety sand-cultured in pot were used. 2. The results are as follows : (1) According to pot culture, the transpiration of pineapple in Okinawa is estimated at 1.0mm per dey (or 250 cc per day per plant) at maximum by monthly average. (2) The transpiration is largest in Okinawa during August through October, when the climate is also at optimum conditions for pineapple growth. The transpiration, however, is estimated at 0.4mm per day (or 90 cc per day per plant) at minimum by monthly average at florescence stage in February and March, which are also the last part of winter season in Okinawa. (3) It was observed that the nocturnal transpiration sometimes increased in October through January to the amount almost equivalent to that for daytime. This may indicate that pineapple at times vigorously transpires at night as well.
