From 4 years and 3 months to 7 years of age, behaviors of the child were observed in a play situation with her parents. By the qualitative changes of the relatedness with her parents, a period of observation was divided into 6 stages. The stages were as follows ; 1st stage : proximity to her father as an instrumental object to attain her purpose, 2nd stage : attachment to her mother as a psychological secure base, 3rd stage : appearance of proximity to her mother as a companion with play situation, 4th stage : awareness to mental states of her mother, 5th stage : awareness to mental states of her own, and two-way relationship, 6th stage : emotional instability resulting from environmental changes, and steady cognitive development. In 5th stage, she became to look at her own mirror image of emotional expressions instead of body movements.
