 note = {まだ医学生であったころ、ウィリアムズはキーツやホイットマンを愛読し、とりわけ Ehdymion や Leaves of Grass の影響を強く受けたことはウィリアムズ自身、『自伝』の中で述べているところであり、The Wanderer や Al Que Quiere! の詩にはロマン派的傾向が強くあらわれているようである。しかしながら、ロマン派的自然や創造的エネルギーを賛美する一方で、機械文明、物質文明に侵され、精神的よりどころを失いゆくアメリカ社会を鋭くみつめ、批判していくウィリアムズのもうひとつの視点も見逃すことはできない。この小論では、“Overture to a Dance of Locomotives,”“Spring and All,”“The Yachts”の三つの詩の解釈を中心に、ウィリアムズの二面性と社会批判をみていく。, 紀要論文},
