Although very little research has been done in this field,Nakabayashi(1952) pointed out that the anthelminthic constituent in Melia azedarach L.,var,japonica MAKINO,probably belongs to the coumarin group.The first step in studying the anthelminthic properties of this bast is to analyze it qualitatively and quantitatively and to discover its composition.The author has\n analyzed the bast oil and his method sofanalysis and conclusions are reported.Phloem from Melia azedarach LINN.was dried in the air,powdered,and used as a sample for this research.1.39.5 grams of oil were obtained from 5,052 grams of powdered bast by ether abstraction. This oil belongs to the drying-oil group. 2.Upon saponification,the fatty acids separated from the oil contained 6.72 per-cent solid acid and 93.28 per-cent liquid acid. The solid acid was made up of\n palmitic acid and stearic acid whereas the liquid acid consisted of linoleic acid and oleic acid. 3.The unsaponificiable substance became white needle shaped crystals and had a melting point between 120℃.to 121℃.Acetylation with acetic acid produced beautiful needle shaped crystals of different structure. These were refined by recrystallization three times and were found to have a melting point of 133℃. It is the hypothesis of the author that this substance is phytosterine but more research must be carried out before any final conclusion can be made., 紀要論文}, pages = {7--12}, title = {センダン(Melia azedarach LINN.)樹皮成分の研究 - 樹皮抽出油について-} }
