Molasses are produced in large quantities as a side product of sugar industry in this island.Nevertheless most of them are exported to Japan,very few quantity is consumed here. I attelnpted to utilize these molasses as a raw of usefull materials except alcohol fermentation by applylng chemical operations. I obtained oxalic acid and potassium salt of D-glucosaccharic acid by dealing molasses with nitric acid. White crystal is produced as a oxidation product by using concentrated nitric acid at temperature of 40°-50℃ for several days. It was certified oxalic acid in consequence of measuring m.p.and I.R.spectra etc. Similarly white crystal is obtained by oxidizing with diluted nitric acid at temp.of50°-60℃ until the solution becomes to syrup and removal of nitric acid perfectly.
