The results are as follows: (1) When the night temperature of water was high (35℃), the growth of both top and roots was poor. Detrimental effects of high temperature was greater in varieties cultivated in cooler region than those in warmer region. (2) The third leaf blade of seedlings grown in the plot of high night temperature of water showed yellowish white spotted bands as the result of the poor formation of chlorophyll. The reason is considered that the metabolic oxidation process in roots is hindered and the absorption of mineral elements is greatly retarded due to high water temperature. (3) The rate of oxygen absorption of roots was in the order of the seedlings in low water temperature plot (20℃) > natural temperature plot (26℃) > high temperature plot (35℃). As to the rate of oxygen absorption, varieties of warmer region was greater than those of cooler region. (4) The consumption of foods in endosperm is faster in seedlings of high water temperature. The reason is considered that not only the developmental stage of seedlings in high water temperature is more advanced, but the consumption of foods due\nto respiration is greater., 紀要論文}, pages = {107--115}, title = {夜間の水温が水稲苗の生長および根の活力に及ぼす影響}, year = {1958} }
