Engineering}, month = {Mar}, note = {The machining of metals by machine tool is often accompanied by a relative vibration between work and tool which is called chatter. In this chatter, there are self-excited vibration which takes place in the synthetic system composed of machine tool structure system and cutting process, and excited vibration in machine tool driving system. We must prevent this chatter to make a stable cut. For the purpose of increasing the stability of machine tool, the large number of researchers tend to study in order to increase stiffness and damping of machine tool structure in recent year. But the mechanism of structural damping ought to be cleared to increase the damping of machine tool structure. Goodman makes study of the bileaf-cantilever of which contact surface are subjected to uniform pressure distribution.
