In Ryukyuan dances, 2 "kanzashi", "jifaa" or "ushizashi" (large ornamental hair-pins) are placed in the hairstyle in the case of classical dances but in the case of folk dances, where the dancers represent the common people, none are used. The effect of the hairstyle, where the hair is tightly gathered on top of the head in a topknot, is considered one of vitality and strength. The same hairstyle is used for all of the men's dances e. g. kagiyadefu, takareiramanzai, wakashu kutibushi, (zei, nubuikuduchi, kudaiku duchi), menuhama, hatomabushi, agichikuten. However, different costumes, accessories and headgear are used., 紀要論文}, pages = {287--303}, title = {琉球装束 (その三) : 琉球舞踊の装い : 男髪型とからじ結い}, year = {1991} }
