 note = {The purpose of this paper is to examine the image of Shima (island) in the novel Yuratiku Yuritiku(2000), written by Sakiyama Tami. This novel, which is noted for its style, which is mixture of Okinawan dialects and standard Japanese, tells the story of a fictive southern island named Hotarajima. People on this island are mostly old men around 100 years old, and they spend their time mainly chatting and dying one after another. This paper attempts to understand the image of this fictive island and its memory in terms of the theory of image/memory by H. Bergson and G. Deleuze. Through her complicated writing style, Sakiyama not only resists various stereotypical Okinawan images but also revives some possibilities for literature in Okinawa (science fiction and so on)., 論文},
