As a result, the detection times of earthquakes in the Ryukyu Trench and Okinawa Trough were shortened by 15 – 23 seconds and 10–16 seconds, respectively. The time from the detection of P-waves to the arrival of S-waves for an earthquake occurring in the Ryukyu Trench increased by 15 –20 seconds. The accuracy of hypocenter determination also increased when the offshore observation points were used in combination with those from onshore.
