A total of 72 species in 17 genera were observed in the archipelago, of which 57 species (79.2%) were found in the Oriental region. The mosquito fauna of the archipelago has tropical characteristics including 10 endemic species ( 13.9%). The appearances of vector mosquitoes of malaria, dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis and filariasis, in the endemic period and in the present time are shown.
