The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation of cytologic findings with histologic grade of endometrial adenocarcinoma. Twenty-six cases of endometrial adenocarcinoma (20 of well differentiated type, 3 of moderately differentiated and 3 of poorly differentiated) were involved in this study. In well differentiated type (G1), the tumor cells appeared in sheet-like, acinous, or papillary cell clusters, and were relatively uniform in size and shape with finely granular chromatine pattern of nuclei. Whereas in moderately differentiated (G2) and poorly differentiated (G3) types, they appeared in overlapping cell clusters, and were pleomorphic with coarsely granular chromatin pattern of nuclei. Quantitatively, the mean diameater in major and minor axis of tumor cells was 12. $7 \pm 3.1$$ \mu $ in G1, $21.5 \pm 8.5$$ \mu $ in G2 and $16.4 \pm 8.5$$ \mu $ in G3. The mean diameter in major and minor axis of nuclei of tumor cells was $9.3 \pm 2.0$$ \mu $, $17.3 \pm 7.4$$ \mu $, $13.3 \pm 6.6$$ \mu $ in G1, G2, G3, respectively. The nuclear and cytoplasmic ratio of tumor cells was 73.2% in G1, 80.4% in G2 and 81.4% in G3. The results indicate that the cytologic features of tumor cells in endometrial adenocarcinoma correlate with its histologic grade. |
