Various indices of longevity were calculated between male and female cases in each of these groups of family members : fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and spouses. The results are as follows : (1) Mothers and sisters of nonagenarians lived longer than their fathers and brothers, and also sisters of female cases lived longer than those of male cases. These results suggest that factors influencing longevity are inherited mainly through the female line. But it is also regarded that sex difference of life expectancey is reflected in the results. (2) Of various indices of longevity involved, some indices on family members over the age of 80 showed no statistically significant difference by sex, but those on family members over the age of 90 showed statistically significant difference by sex. Therefore, it is probable that the phenomenon of longevity appears in life stage over 90. (3) After birth order analysis of 68 cases including siblings over the age of 90 by the Greenwood-Yule procedure, birth rate of nonagenarians who early in the order of birth was not different from that of these later in the order of birth. (4) Nonagenarians were almost always healthy from their early life by the analysis of their anamneses. (5) The above-mentioned results positively suggest that the phenomenon of longevity is influenced by hereditary factors. But some indices of longevity involved showed that the phenomenon of longevity was influenced by environmental factors and the number of nonagenarians, especially male cases, was not sufficient.
