 note = {The Department of Community Medical Service at University of the Ryukyus Hospital was originally established as the department to provide and promote comprehensive medicine on Okinawa. The principles for its activities have been gradually converted from hospital administration to community medicine. The development of hospital administration policy has produced central laboratory, supply and surgical operating departments as well as a progressive patient care system including C.C.U. and I.C.U.; it has also controlled the department of medical records. Community medical service should have the following 5 aspects : 1. Pre-hospital care of population by control of pre-clinical illness and risk factors of adult diseases. 2. Re-organization of hospital system by introducing the concept of progressive patient care and a health screening clinic. 3. Post-hospital care to support day care and home care. 4. The control of the health of the aged population on Okinawa ( the area of greatest longevity in Japan ) and. 5. A regional medical plan taking into account the area serviced by the hospital and the attitudes to health services by the patients in that area. Planning should also recognize regional medical demands and defects ( especially on many isolated islands ) which are characteristics of Okinawa and should control, re-distribute and effectively use the limited medical resources and materials in the community. For the purpose of applying these principles, communication and computer systems must be connected. Various kinds of medical data need to be transmitted through various communication routes from the terminals and then memorized, standardized, filed and ordered for comparison with other data whenever necessary. It is hoped that the comprehensive health control system is successfully and universally established in each community by the connection of medical science and technology., 論文},
