 note = {We performed diabetes survey of 1,294 inhabitants in Ie Island which is situated in northern part of Okinawa.Both blood and urinary glucose were measured as a screening test, and 75gOGTT were carried out as a second step test. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus more than 40-years-old were 3.8% and 3.3% in male and female, respectively.When these results of blood glucose levels were judged by the criteria of 50gOGTT made by Japan Diabetic Society, the prevalence of diabetes were 5.8% in male and 4.1% in female, which showed almost similar values to that of the results obtained in other areas of Japan. Higher prevalence of diabetes was observed in patients with obesity, hypertension and hypercholesteremia. Out of 39 diabetic inhabitants, 20 were newly diagnosed ones, which suggests the importance of diabetes survey with blood glucose measurements., 論文},
