An abnormal high value of PIVKA-II was seen in 73.7% of the patients with HCC, and 40% of the patients with extrahepatic carcinoma. On the other hand, only 4.5% of patients with liver cirrhosis showed an elevated valueof PIVKA-II, and none of the patientswith both chronic hepatitis and other benign liver diseaes showed an abnormal value of PIVKA-II. Sensitivity and specificity of PIVKA-II in HCC were 73.7%, and 92.6%, respectively. Finally, we suggest that PIVKA-II would be unuseful for screening test in the early detection of HCC, because of its relatively low sensitivity against HCC.
