In this paper we report the findings of relationship between aging and the postural sway as an indicator of body balance. One hundred and thirty-six healthy adults (57 males, 79 females) aged 21 to 83 years old were investigated repeatedly under the various upright postures. The postural sway was recorded using a force platform (statokinesimenter) connected with X-Y recorder. The postural sway (area;cm^2) has been calculated by multiplication of antero-posterior and left-right direction sway based on the statokinesigram. The postural sway showed an increasing tendency with the advancement of age on all upright postures. The postural sway in the aged group was larger tllan that in the younger group. A linear correlation was found between aging and postural sway obtained from the observation of each upright posture. The correlation coefficients were 0.477-0.558 for males and 0.212-0.313 for females.
