Among these 28 patients, 6 patients had congenital heart disease, and among these six, 2 had ASD, 2 had VSD, one had PDA, and one had W-P-W syndrome; the 19 remaining patients had acquired heart disease. Seven of the 19 had MS, 3 had MI, 3 had AI, and 6 had mixed heart valve disease. Three of 28 patients had unknown heart valve disease. These 28 patients had a total of 39 times pregnancy in past history, and among them, 11 had experienced spontaneous abortion, 15 had induced abortion, one had given a premature birth, and 12 had given a full term birth. In this study, we found 3 patients had spontaneous abortion, one had experienced ectopic pregnancy, one had an induced abortion and one died during pregnancy. The patient who had the induced abortion was taking a warfarin, because she had had her mitral valve replaced by a Starr-Edwards prosthesis. Therefore, we considered the side-effects and advised her to have an induced abortion. The other 22 patients gave full-term birth; 5 of them had cesarean sections, and the rest had trans-vaginal deliveries. Between babies given birth by mothers with heart disease and normal babies, there were no differences of apgar scores and weight of newborns. Five patients had heart failure during pregnancy, one of whom failed to recover.
