As the subject,314 departments of health of all prefectures and larger cities ,400 health centers and 478 hospitals in Japan, were selected at random. Based on the following findings, some suggestions were made. 1. Although shortages of public health nurses, clinical nurses and specialists in environmental pollution control are remarkable, university graduates are minority among health professionals except physicians, dentists and pharmacists. For those who graduated from schools of health sciences, it is not easy to find a desirable position in health related organizations. The society is not sufficiently prepared to receive those who are trained in health sciences. 2. Health professionals and those to be are expected to acquire the knowledge of program planning and health related regulations in addition to the broad knowledge and sufficient technology in health sciences. For the staff of health centers and hospitals, more technological aspects of training are expected, but the education in social sciences and practical training in team approach are also emphasized for health center personnel. Based on the findings, the author made some suggestions for future education in health sciences at his school.
