Soon after the inception of the new field, chairs of health sociology were established in several universities. In spite of the diversity of opinions concerning the conception of the new field, many papers in health sociology were published with cooperative efforts from the field of public health. They included some studies on physicians or nurses as professionals. This auther sees the field of health sociology from the viewpoint of behavioral sciences, and believes that studies in health sociology based on the life of the people and their health behavior have been contributing much to the promotion of health not only of the individual but also of the community.
