The cooking of bagasse with sodium hydroxide was successful, but, the cooking of bagasse with either hydrochloride or chemicals free failed to produce the pulp. Addition of ethanol caused a decrease in delignification from bagasse. A pulp yield from bagasse in the water media was the highest of all, 42%. The maximum pulp yield with ethanol-water media composed of 80% ethanol and 20% water was about 38%. A cooking temperature and time with ethanol-water media required 180℃ and 90 minutes respectively. A brightness of bagasse pulp was considerably higher than that of Sugi kraft pulp.
