Number of developed seedling, fresh weight of seedling per 1 gm. fuzz and mean freshweight of seedling at 40 days after sowing in the filter cake medium were not different from those in the traditionally used medium composed of 2 volume vermiculite and 1 volume compost. Stalk length, leaf length, number of fresh leaves and number of tillerings observed in the filter cake were increased as compared with those in the traditionally used medium of mixed soils when the media were used for the transplanting of the seedlings The physical characteristics of the filter cake were as follows : polosity, 86%; volume weight, 32g/100ml; bulk density, 0.32; saturated permeability, 7.6 × 10＾<-3> -1.4 × 10^<-2>cm/ sec ; air rate, 34%; readily available moisture, 31% ; available moisture, 45%.
