 note = {It has been pointed out that the word wajiwajii [wadʒiwadʒiː] in Ryukyuan and the old Japanese word wajiwaji are cognate. However, it is not known whether the word completely disappeared in Japanese or is still used in some dialects, only Ryukyuan retains the word, all Ryukyuan dialects still use it, there is a difference in meaning between the old Japanese word wajiwaji and wajiwajii in Ryukyuan, and so on. There are many questions to be answered. This paper attempts to provide some answers for these questions. Especially it focuses on the following questions:（ i） What is the meaning of the old form and that of modern forms?（ ii） When and how the old word was used?（ iii） Which of modern Ryukyuan languages/dialects still retain the word? and (iv) Which of modern Japanese dialects use the word if any?},
