The same kanji character was used for generations when giving names to boys. Therefore, it is clear that they branched off from the same paternal root. However, in the Second Sho Royal Line, the pronunciations and character style of kanji character used for collateral families’ surnames were the same as and similar to those used for royal family members, respectively. However, the kanji character used for the collateral families’ surname differed from those used for the royal family members. As generations went down, collateral families branched off further and the ranks of the official positions to be assumed were lowered. Consequently, marked differences emerged, even among families belonging to the royal collateral lineage.  To understand the conditions of the collateral relatives of the Second Sho Royal Line, this study examined ancient documents on the genealogy and family history of Aragusuku owned by the Naha City Museum of History. The progenitor of Aragusuku was a grandchild of the 11th King Sho-tei (reign: 1669-1709). According to the genealogy of Aragusuku, although its offices and ranks were not high, officially certified documents, such as memoranda and invoices, are in the limelight. This is because these documents suggest that there was an intention to reflect Aragusuku’s background in future editions of genealogy. Birth certificates and memoranda of oral statements were submitted to and certified by the Shuri Royal Government to obtain legal security regarding births and inheritances. This study also examined the treatment of the successor of Itarashiki Pei-tin in “Atome-Sengi” document No. 434 in Sho-ke-monjo (the Sho Family Collection) and revealed that the hereditary succession of jito-shiki was not easy, even in the royal collateral lineage. Jito-shiki was a feudal position originating in medieval Japan that brought a certain income and status to its holders, even in early modern Ryukyu. The Shuri Royal Government reviewed the retention of jitoshiki at the time of generational change, and no particular family was allowed to permanently retain it. Although they were able to take a slightly advantageous position depending on their fathers’ achievements, they essentially had to start over from a low position. In the Sho Family Collection, the activities of the collateral relatives of the Second Sho Royal Line are briefly described, such as striving for self-discipline, actively accepting even temporary roles, seeking the next position, achieving results, and appealing to the Shuri Royal Government. These activities are difficult to understand from the description of genealogy.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_1617186643794":{"attribute_name":"Publisher","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"琉球大学教育学部","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_1617186702042":{"attribute_name":"Language","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_1617186819068":{"attribute_name":"Identifier Registration","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.24564/0002020041","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_1617186920753":{"attribute_name":"Source Identifier","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"1345-3319","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_1617186941041":{"attribute_name":"Source Title","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_title":"琉球大学教育学部紀要","subitem_source_title_language":"ja"}]},"item_1617187056579":{"attribute_name":"Bibliographic Information","attribute_value_mlt":[{"bibliographicIssueDates":{"bibliographicIssueDate":"2023-08-31","bibliographicIssueDateType":"Issued"},"bibliographicIssueNumber":"103","bibliographicPageEnd":"224","bibliographicPageStart":"205"}]},"item_1617258105262":{"attribute_name":"Resource Type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_1617265215918":{"attribute_name":"Version Type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_1617605131499":{"attribute_name":"File","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-10-20"}],"filename":"M_No103p205.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"872 KB"}],"url":{"url":"https://u-ryukyu.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2020041/files/M_No103p205.pdf"},"version_id":"f5caf393-a197-4024-a499-470452332cbf"}]},"item_title":"向姓新城家の軌跡と板良敷親雲上の跡目僉議","item_type_id":"59","owner":"8","path":["1697431853350","1642838405037"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2023-10-20"},"publish_date":"2023-10-20","publish_status":"0","recid":"2020041","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["向姓新城家の軌跡と板良敷親雲上の跡目僉議"],"weko_creator_id":"8","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-03-21T05:32:06.613195+00:00"}
