 note = {In this paper, we combine the University of the Ryukyu's founding spirits of freedom, equality, tolerance, and peace with the concept of inclusion to explore the inclusion of sexual minorities at our university. Initially, the four tenets of freedom, equality, tolerance, and peace were clearly established as the ideals that our university should aspire to. We then provided a detailed explanation of the concept of inclusion, emphasizing its importance in our university and distinguishing it from diversity.
Furthermore, we addressed the current situation of sexual minorities at our university, highlighting various challenges. These challenges include the lack of specific guidelines, the absence of sexual minorities in diversity categories, and the absence of a dedicated department. We then delved into the inclusion of sexual minorities from the perspectives of freedom, equality, tolerance, and peace, detailing how these foundational principles of our university relate to the inclusion of sexual minorities.
Consequently, we proposed concrete recommendations to actualize these principles. Through suggestions such as the formulation of specific guidelines concerning sexual minorities, establishment of a dedicated department, enhancement of educational and awareness-raising activities, and provision of support and a safe environment, we illustrated the path for our university to truly establish an inclusive environment.
It is our hope that through this paper, readers will understand that advancing the inclusion of sexual minorities in universities is an essential component in realizing the foundational principles of freedom, equality, tolerance, and peace. We aspire for universities to actualize these principles, enabling all students and staff, including sexual minorities, to enjoy a better educational environment and opportunities for societal participation.},
